Legendary Italian tenor, Lucciano Pavarotti died today at his home in Modena, Italy after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71.
Hailed as one of the greatest tenor of his time, Pavarotti has won the prestigious Concorso Internazionale in 1961, sold millions of records, shared the stage with pop stars as well as raised millions of dollars for charity through benefit concerts.
In a statement, his manager Terri Robson said: “The Maestro fought a long, tough battle against the pancreatic cancer which eventually took his life. In fitting with the approach that characterised his life and work, he remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness.”
Pavarotti is survived by his wife, Nicoletta Mantovani, and a daughter, Alice, along with three daughters by his first wife, Adua Veroni, whom he divorced in 2000, and a granddaughter.
